Years of Experience

Meet Newman Borg

Principal, Depoltz Accounting

With more than 40 years across finance, corporate leadership, and small business, Newman brings a rare depth of experience to every client relationship. He’s served as a CFO, owned and operated a hospitality business for over a decade, and has been helping small businesses through public accounting since 2014.

That breadth of experience matters. Newman knows what it’s like to make payroll, manage cash flow, and carry the full weight of running a business — not just advise on it from the outside. His clients turn to him for small business strategy, tax planning, business advisory, property and share investment guidance, and deceased estate administration — and his advice has helped many of them build lasting wealth along the way.

Away from the office, he’s a keen runner, a lifelong St Kilda supporter, and a proud grandfather of three. If you’re ever near our office, don’t hesitate to pop in — he’d love to meet you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes you different from other accountants?

Most accountants are reactive — they look at what happened last financial year, lodge your return, and move on. We take a different approach. We work with you throughout the year on proactive planning so you’re making smarter decisions before the end of the financial year, not scrambling after it. That means regular check-ins, forward-looking tax strategies, and advice that’s actually tied to where your business is heading. The other thing clients notice straight away is our communication — you won’t be chasing us for updates or waiting weeks for a callback. We stay in touch, we explain things in plain English, and we make sure you always know where you stand.

We operate on fixed, transparent fees — no hourly surprises, no hidden charges. You’ll know exactly what you’re paying before we start. The best way to understand what working with us looks like is to book a free consultation. We’ll sit down with you, get to know your business, walk you through how we’d work together, and give you a clear quote. No obligation, no pressure — just a straightforward conversation about what you need and what it costs.

This is one of the biggest things we do. Tax returns tell you what happened — tax planning makes sure you’re set up to keep more of what you earn going forward. We work with you throughout the year on strategies like timing income and expenses, structuring dividends vs. salary, maximising superannuation contributions, and making sure your business structure is still the most tax-effective option as you grow. It’s the difference between an accountant who files paperwork and one who actively saves you money.

All of them — sole traders, partnerships, Pty Ltd companies, family and unit trusts, and SMSFs. If you’re not sure whether your current structure is still right for where your business is heading, that’s something we’ll look at together. Sometimes a simple restructure can make a significant difference to your tax position, asset protection, or succession planning, and it’s exactly the kind of forward-looking advice we build into our service.

Definitely — we can deliver everything remotely on an ongoing basis. That said, we believe it’s important to get to know your business properly, and we find the best way to do that is to meet in person first. Your free consultation is a chance for us to sit down face to face, understand your goals, and make sure we’re the right fit for each other. From there, most clients find a mix of video calls and online communication works perfectly for the day-to-day.
