We specialise in accounting, business advisory, and taxation services for small and medium-sized businesses, with particular experience in the trades, manufacturing, hospitality, start-ups, and deceased estates.

Thanks to modern technology, our clients come from all parts of Australia, including some who have moved overseas.

Depoltz Accounting is a Brisbane-based public accounting practice, operating from offices in Seventeen Mile Rocks in Brisbane’s south-western suburbs.

We also manage a large number of self-managed superannuation funds.

As a full-service practice, we do as much – or as little – as you need.

Our Company Structure

Depoltz Laplace Pty Ltd is Newman Borg’s private company, originally established in 1996 upon his return from overseas.

From 2002 to 2014, the company operated in the hospitality industry after which it joined the Accounting Practice operated by John Tate and formed a Partnership. This partnership continued until July 2024, when John retired and Newman acquired his 50% share.

The practice now operates as Depoltz Laplace Pty Ltd, trading as Depoltz Accounting.

Our team includes 10 dedicated staff across bookkeeping, accounting, and administration.

Meet Newman Borg

A broad career across finance and business

Newman’s interesting and varied career spans more than four decades, with experience in both large organisations and small business. He brings a practical, real-world perspective to every client relationship.

Early career and corporate leadership

Executive experience and business ownership

On returning to Brisbane in 1996, Newman became Chief Financial Officer at Endeavour Foundation. In 2002, he shifted gears and ran his own hospitality business for over a decade before returning to accounting.

Return to public accounting

In 2014, Newman joined John Tate’s team, became a qualified Member of the Institute of Public Accountants, and was admitted as a Partner in 2016. He now works closely with clients across a range of industries.

Real-world insight for small business

Unusually, Newman has gained career experience in both very large organisations as well as in Small Business. He has first-hand understanding and appreciation of the difficulties and challenges faced by Small Business. Given his background in Financial Institutions and his own investment portfolio, Newman has excellent knowledge of the benefits & pitfalls of investing in Shares and Investment Property

Taking the Lead at Depoltz Accounting

In July 2024, Newman bought out his partner at John R. D. Tate and now operates through his company, Depoltz Laplace Pty Ltd.

On a Personal Note

Family life matters to Newman. He’s been married for over 45 years and enjoys watching his two granddaughters and his grandson grow up.

Outside of work, Newman is a keen runner and loves reading about science. Originally from Victoria, he’s a lifelong Aussie Rules fan and proud St Kilda supporter.
